to-MAY-to or to-MAH-to?

design history

20090422tt_fg01Have you ever used a font in a project that you just had no idea how to pronounce? Note that a pronunciation in the language of origin and “common” pronunciation is not always the same. There is a fine line as to when common usage becomes acceptable. For instance, ITC pronounces ITC Kabel as Kah-bel' (never Kay'-bul) while the actual German pronunciation is Kah'-bel. Additionally, many pronounce Neue as “New” which is the English translation. But if you don’t want to be considered typographically unsophisticated, don’t pronounce Olive (as in Antique Olive) the same as the martini ingredient. Click this link to find out the most commonly mis-pronounced fonts.

Phillies Logo History

phillies logoAs Philadelphians, we take pride in our sports teams. We cheer for our team. We’re upset when our team loses. And even though the Curse of Billy Penn has struck us for more than twenty years, we still enjoy wearing our favorite team’s logo. The Phillies have been around for more than a century, but their logo changed almost every year or two in the first 30 years they were around. In 1929, the Phillies updated their logo to a version of the stylized “P” that we have today.
