Capture the Day

art270 news

art270 ___Capture_the_DayIt’s a fast paced world out there. I often get upset when I don’t hear back from someone I wrote to, then realize that I only sent the email or text 15 minutes ago. We do so much, so fast, that multi-tasking has become our norm. We use email instead of snail mail. We e-blast rather than send formal printed invitations and now we want to see things in real time from cameras mounted on street corners and satellites rather than wait until the evening news. I’m not sure I can do much to slow the pace of things (although I’d like to) but I can suggest one option to help you keep up.

If you haven’t worked with video much or even if you have, the power of a short video, produced entirely in a few short hours and posted to You Tube or attached to an e-blast, can bring excitement and insight into an upcoming event or program in a way that no printed or static message can. Take a look at this quick video that was produced on the fly by John Welsh for a poster show at Montgomery County Community College that is on display until November 19. Totally unrehearsed, the camera crew arrived with both still and video cameras and recorded the hanging of the show and then grabbed a few sound bites to create a voice-over. The assembled video was posted in an e-blast the next morning as a press release and announcement for the show opening that took place that evening. The video worked to not only announce the event but also added excitement and a quick peak into what could be seen at the show. It wasn’t planned, nothing was rehearsed, the footage was minimally edited, but the simple and raw nature of the shoot is what makes it work. There is just enough there to start to paint a story. Just enough to tease you into action. One more task completed in the same day.

It’s a fast paced world alright. You might want to consider a little video to capture it.

Celebrating 25 Years

art270 news

art270_25yearsIt's been twenty-five-plus years since art270 was incorporated in a basement in Elkins Park. The processes of graphic design have changed drastically since 1987—think rubylith and mechanicals. Remember when retouching a photo meant digging out a two-hair paint brush and a bottle of photo grey dye? The waxer? Remember NOT having a computer?

One thing that hasn't changed in all those years is our commitment to great graphic design. Help us to celebrate our anniversary by sharing your favorite memories from the past twenty five years of art270 graphic design—great projects, awards, interesting or unusual characters and places, etcetera.

Thanks for being a client and a friend. We hope you'll stay with us for the next 25 years!

It's time to turn the page

art270 news

itt-watermark-philippinesThe only thing missing is the smell of fresh ink. That was my impression the first time I looked at software that allowed online readers to experience a book or brochure much like the real thing. Pages that turn? How cool is that? If you haven't had a chance to experience this new technology, check out the attached brochure we recently designed for ITT. If you think this might be for you, give us a call and we can talk you through the advantages and disadvantages of this incredible technology. It isn't for every online project but it might be just thing you were looking for to add that wow factor to your presentation. There's always something new going on at art270.
