Happy Anniversary to us!
design news
Twenty-five years. A quarter of a century! When we incorporated this little design studio back in 1985, I never dreamed that we would still be going strong in 2010. Pencils, erasers, drawing templates and colored markers were our tools of choice. The digital camera, the mobile phone and the computer were not on our radar yet. Everything was produced by hand. Lines were drawn with ruling pens, type changes were noted on tissue overlays on paper mechanicals that reeked of rubber cement. Want to change a line of type? Send a note with a courier to the typesetter and expect the correction back in a few days. And we thought life was hectic then! Jump forward to 2010. Computers control everything we do, and the pace of work has quickened. We can't imagine working without our electronic tools. And is life any better? We've eliminated the rubber cement and xylene and toxic markers, and we no longer need to wet our ink pens in our mouths to make them flow, but there is still something I miss about 1985 (other than my hair). We relied on our hands and our craft to bring our work to life. There was no fear of a power outage (or a hard drive crash) because you could still draw by candlelight. Things aren't better, or worse, they're just different. We continue to adapt to the times (see our website and our Facebook page), and we continue to provide design solutions to our clients (some of whom have stuck with us all twenty-five years!). Personally I can't wait to see what the next twenty-five years will bring!
